The following letter from Barrie resident Myrna Clark asks city police to address speeding in her south-end neighbourhood, which she refers to as a "raceway."

I have written several times over the past few years to both you and the Barrie police about speeding and noisy vehicles on Barrie streets. Although I have had polite replies from the police, nothing has changed.

Trying to quietly read on the verandah on a hot afternoon, I had to go inside due to the incredible noise of vehicles with modifications to their muffler systems that sound like "thunder boats, leaf blowers and sometimes shotguns."

Last fall, the police ‘invited’ drivers of these vehicles to restore their engines to manufacturers specifications or face fines. It seems that many of these drivers missed or ignored the invitations.

It would seem also that fines could not have been given as the numbers and noise have increased. Friends who visit are shocked that this is permitted.

Do the police or the police services board have any suggestions to deal with this?

It certainly doesn’t seem to be on anyone’s radar.

Looking for a remedy.

Myrna Clark
