LETTER: Does Hwy. 90 speeding not merit police attention?

I live in Essa Township and regularly use Highway 90, as does my family. As many will know, the posted limit is 80 kilometres per hour.

As a very experienced driver, I am shocked that there is very little police presence on this highway.

I understand the pace of life is crazy busy for most folks today, but as I thought I would see what speeds people are achieving on Highway 90, I was amazed that to keep up with the flow I had to hit 105 km/h. No sign of police, and I backed off knowing I was way over the limit.

The speed is one thing, but we need to exit making a left turn and on four occasions, our family has nearly been hit by someone driving down the centre turning lane, passing everyone they can. How many more times has this happened? How many more times until someone gets hurt or killed with this reckless driving?

There have been enough accidents along this road between Barrie and Angus to warrant some real concern. How long? Who needs to get hurt?

Perhaps we should ask the folks involved in the most recent four-vehicle collision their thoughts. There could be some light shed on this ongoing and worsening situation.
