4:29 AM EST Monday 25 December 2017
Snow squall watch in effect for:
- Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale
- Midland - Coldwater - Orr Lake
- Orillia - Lagoon City - Washago
In the wake of last night's general snowfall, a few snow squalls are expected to affect regions east of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay today and tonight.
They will be moving which will limit snowfall accumulations to localized 5 to 10 centimetres today. The Bruce Peninsula may receive higher amounts of 10 to 15 cm due to lingering bands. More consolidated slower-moving snow squalls will likely occur tonight, giving higher amounts still.
In addition, strong westerly winds will gust up to 70 km/h today, producing very poor visibility in blowing snow, particularly in open areas. Holiday travelers are urged to adjust their plans if possible.
Snow squall conditions near Lake Huron and Georgian Bay are expected to persist for much of the week due to the presence of a very cold Arctic air mass.
Travel may be hazardous due to sudden changes in the weather.
Snow squall watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the formation of bands of snow that could produce intense accumulating snow or near zero visibilities.
