Here are the details of the snow squall watch issued by Environment Canada:
4:54 AM EST Thursday 14 December 2017
Snow squall watch in effect for:
- Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale
Snow squalls are expected to develop. Under the snow squall bands, visibilities will be significantly reduced due to the heavy snow combined with blowing snow, and snow will quickly accumulate.
Lake effect snow squalls are expected to develop this morning.
Snow squalls from Georgian bay will affect the region today and then weaken somewhat tonight as winds become more westerly. Local snowfall accumulations of 10 to 15 centimetres are possible.
Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Travel may be hazardous due to sudden changes in the weather.
Snow squall watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the formation of bands of snow that could produce intense accumulating snow or near zero visibilities.
