Community Builders Awards: Dawid 'LiftiD' Kumidaj is dedicated to keeping Barrie clean for future generations

The first winner of the Environment Award tidies our streets and makes cleaning fun

Dawid Kumidaj, also known as ‘LiftiD’, has started his own volunteer-led initiative to make Barrie a cleaner, healthier place to live.

For the last year on Sunday afternoons, Dawid has led a clean up where volunteers walk the streets and pick up garbage. He provides gloves, garbage pickers and garbage bags for those who want to help and as a result, they have removed numerous bags of trash from the downtown core.

Not only does this make Barrie look more beautiful, but it also makes our city safer. In addition to picking up litter, recyclables and household waste, Dawid and his team have cleaned up used needles and drug paraphernalia off our streets.

Dawid also makes cleaning fun by incorporating Hip-Hop, as he performs on sidewalks and has other local artists participate in his weekly events.

Dawid’s grassroots initiative has had a ripple effect on the community, too. He often attaches food drives to his clean-ups to support those in need in Barrie. His group is also out creating meaningful connections with residents and business owners in the area, creating a sense of unity and camaraderie.

The Environment Award is presented to a person who has had a positive impact on our environment, demonstrating to the rest of us what is possible in improving our community’s environmental footprint.

Congratulations, Dawid!

This award is proudly sponsored by Mortgage Wellness.
