Community Builders Awards: Youth-led environmental advocacy group wins this year’s Young Leader Award

The Simcoe County Environmental Youth Alliance works to inspire action when it comes to climate change

The Simcoe County Environmental Youth Alliance (SCEYA) is a youth-led advocacy team of young people who are passionate about the environment.

They are dedicated to educating local youth and the broader community about how to do better by the environment, focusing primarily on the future (particularly for Simcoe County) and how our municipality can and is reacting to the climate crisis.

Formed in the summer of 2020, SCEYA has led a number of campaigns to promote awareness and action surrounding climate change. Some of those activities include tree-planting in Highland Park, where they planted 60 trees in partnership with Living Green Barrie. They have also hosted a Water Initiative webinar with guest speakers, bringing to light the many issues surrounding the local water all depend on.

Ultimately, SCEYA encourages people to talk about climate, reflect on the climate’s future and take action, whether it be big or small, while also providing a platform and a space for young people who want to make a difference but may not know how.

The Young Leader Award is presented to an individual or group under the age of 25 who is actively involved in worthwhile community service and shows a commitment to making the community a better place for others.

Congratulations to the Simcoe County Environmental Youth Alliance!

This award is proudly sponsored by Innovative Automation Inc.
