Kalliecharan plans to ‘paint the town red’ (4 photos)

Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte Liberal Party candidate Brian Kalliecharan celebrated the opening of his campaign office on Sunday morning

A special guest attended the official campaign launch party for Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte Liberal candidate Dr. Brian Kalliecharan today.

Federal minister of innovation, science and economic development Navdeep Bains attended Sunday's event to show support for Kalliecharan’s run, which will mark the local dentist’s first foray into political waters.

“I’m overwhelmed with excitement and joy,” said Kalliecharan. “Having people come out to support the campaign opening revitalizes the energy around the coming writ drop and gives us what we need to pass that goal line to paint this town red.”

About 50 local residents, dignitaries and supporters packed the office at 181 Livingstone St. E., for the kick off, and the excitement in the new office was tangible.

Bains wouldn’t confirm at the event when the writ would drop, signalling the official start of campaigning, but did say the election date is set in stone.

“The election date is finalized and it’s Oct. 21. The campaign start date has not yet been determined,” said Bains. “I wish I knew. That’s the prime minister’s prerogative.”
