BarrieToday recently reached out to each candidate for city council in Barrie's 10 wards for a 300-word profile in their own words about their background and why people should vote for them.

**********************

My name is Micheline, and I am your candidate for Ward 6.

Over the next two months you will have a few candidates at your door. You will hear different promises, catchphrases, slogans.

I ask you to consider the power of your vote. Ask the tough questions and make sure your candidate knows the issues.

With that X, you are having your say on how our city grows, how your property taxes are managed, how roads are repaired, how streets are kept safe, and how trails and green spaces are protected. The decisions we make in the next four years will have an impact on us for the next 40.

I have been an advocate for our city for years, from sitting on board of directors, to guest speaking as a survivor for the cancer society, and now working as a community fundraiser for the Heart and Stroke.

But my background is in real estate, finance, and property taxation. That is important because we are on the brink of another MPAC assessment, and with that is going to come an increase in your property taxes.

Our middle class is being pushed out of home ownership by rising costs and daily living. I know how hard you work for your money, and I will work hard for you.

I have the experience and the deep understanding of fiscal matters to find new solutions and smarter ways to grow. Growth that protects our green spaces, trails, and creates more affordable housing.

I’ve been to the doors, and I have heard your concerns:

Gridlock and traffic.

Road repairs.

Parking.

Speeding on residential streets.

Smart growth over poorly planned sprawl.

Long-term planning for long-term prosperity requires new solutions to complex problems.

This Oct. 22, I hope you’ll consider voting Micheline Robichaud, Ward 6.
