BarrieToday recently reached out to each candidate for city council in Barrie's 10 wards for a 300-word profile in their own words about their background and why people should vote for them.

**********************

I have been a resident of Ward 7 for the past 19 years.

Donna and I chose Barrie as the place to raise our two daughters. I have been employed in the judicial system as a law enforcement professional for the past 29 years, with a background in law and finance serving on three separate not for profit board of directors over the past decade.

I am a graduate of the Ontario Municipal Management Institute, University of Toronto Rotman School of Management, University of Guelph-Humber and Humber College.

When elected I have a five point plan to serve the citizens of this great city:

Responsible Spending

- Work to keep tax increases at or below the rate of inflation

- All decisions would be made with the taxpayer in mind being fiscally responsible

Smart Intensification

- Support development that is respectful of existing properties

- Introduction of exterior design guidelines so that new buildings blend in with existing neighbourhoods

- Ensure an acceptable volume of affordable housing is being built

Enhanced Community Safety

- Enhanced support of Project Lifesaver to help locate missing Alzheimer and dementia patients

- Propose permanent road calming devices

- Propose senior’s parking spots in larger shopping lots

- Enhanced snow removal on side streets

Proactive Infrastructure

- Study the feasibility of smart traffic control signals to improve traffic flow

- Ensure the widening of major arterial roads in the new annexed lands prior to construction beginning

Opening Barrie for Business

- Tax Incentives for businesses that relocate to Barrie and employ Barrie residents

- Tax incentives for Barrie area businesses that expand their work force with Barrie residents

- Focus infrastructure to support economic growth

All major decisions like the $19M Fisher Auditorium revitalization will involve public consultations.

Listening, Caring, Standing up for you!
