BarrieToday recently reached out to each candidate for city council in Barrie's 10 wards for a 300-word profile in their own words about their background and why people should vote for them.

It has been an honour and privilege to serve as the councillor representing Ward 3 residents for the past two terms for the City of Barrie.
I am excited to be running again for re-election giving me the opportunity to utilize my experience and deliver proven results for the residents of Ward 3.
I moved to Barrie over thirty years ago and I live in Ward 3 with my wife and two teenage sons. I have run my own business in Barrie for over 20 years and use my business acumen in every decision I make at council.
Over the past eight years, I can take pride in the fact that I have always listened and responded to the residents of Ward 3 and have answered every email and phone call I have received.
I have consistently worked to resolve issues to residents’ satisfaction.
I truly enjoy representing the residents of Ward 3 on all issues from neighbourhood traffic safety concerns to large infrastructure projects like the new Duckworth/400 interchange and retail plaza development.
Over the past eight years, I have been a contributing member on many committees at city hall including chairing the Infrastructure, Investment and Development Services Committee, Barrie Police Services Board and Barrie and Area Physician Recruitment Task Force.
I know what it takes to be a ward councillor and I know how to get answers and get results.
I have proven experience and knowledge to get the job done!
I look forward to hearing from residents with any concerns and can be contacted at 705-720-2330, [email protected] or www.dougshipley.ca.
