BarrieToday recently reached out to each candidate for city council in Barrie's 10 wards for a 300-word profile in their own words about their background and why people should vote for them.

**********************

My wife Shari and I moved to Barrie in 1988, and we have resided in Allandale for 30 years. We chose Barrie to raise our three daughters as it offered a small-town feel, favourable amenities, and a wonderful waterfront.

I retired as a staff sergeant with 31 years of exemplary service in policing, seven years with Toronto Police and 24 years with Innisfil/South Simcoe Police. I have demonstrated leadership experience, and I have managed E911 communications, courts, training, community services and auxiliary policing.

I received a concentration certificate from Dalhousie University (Henson College) in police leadership administration inclusive of budgeting and financial management of police services, and I have taken Georgian College Ontario management development program courses.

Through my 16 years as association president and seven years as a director with the Police Association of Ontario, I’ve interacted with all levels of government on public safety and policing issues.

Being retired allows me the opportunity to represent your interests on a full-time basis. I recognize the benefits of providing good public service, the importance of listening to you, and responding back in a reasonable time frame.

I appreciate resident’s desire a zero per cent tax increase, but we must consider the impact on service levels and be mindful of our aging infrastructure. Identifying wasteful spending and prioritizing our vision will assist in stabilizing tax increases and holding increases closer to the Consumer Price Index (inflation).

We need to ensure smart growth, walkable neighbourhoods, diversified housing, green spaces, bike lanes, and encourage sustainable employment. An active community is a healthy community. We need a community where people can work, live, and play.

I support implementing a Heritage Strategy Plan that will preserve Barrie’s Cultural Heritage while being mindful of an individual property owner’s rights. We need to ensure our seniors have adequate services and programs available.
