Collingwood mayor elected Simcoe-Grey MPP

Saunderson will trade Collingwood's mayoral seat for spot in Ontario legislature

Brian Saunderson has been elected as MPP for Simcoe-Grey. 

The Collingwood mayor, who is currently on leave, pulled ahead in the polls early maintaining about 50 to 54 per cent of the vote.

As of 9:35 p.m., 35 of the 64 polling stations (55 per cent) reported with Saunderson ahead, followed by the local Liberal candidate Ted Crysler. 

In the first 31 polls, Saunderson received 18,371 votes and there are 121,996 registered voters in the riding. Voter turnout isn't reported yet. 

Crysler has so far received 6,933 votes (20 per cent), followed by NDP candidate Keith Nunn (3,706 votes/ 11 per cent). 

Ontario news agencies declared a PC victory with the NDP keeping the official opposition spot.
