By lunch hour Tuesday, 8,958 people in Barrie had voted in the city election.

Barrie has approximately 103,000 eligible voters for this election, which runs until Oct. 24.

“Don’t wait until the last minute to vote,” said Wendy Cooke, Barrie’s city clerk and director of legislative and court services. “Call if you don’t have a voter information letter or if you require any assistance, as voting closes at 8 p.m. on Monday and if you reach out too close to that time or after a person may miss their opportunity to vote.”

In addition to 24/7 online and telephone voting, the city has voter assistance centres open Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Monday where you can vote in-person by phone, laptop or iPad.

Dates and times are at barrie.ca/election or call 705-728-8683 (VOTE).

Locations and times are also included in voter information letters, which came by regular mail to voters.

The voter help line is available on Sunday, Oct. 23, 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. (705-728-8683), or email [email protected].

Barrie had only in-person voting in 2018, using touch-screen technology, but no online or phone voting. Turnout four years ago was 27,652 — or 30 per cent.

But only online and phone voting was used in the 2020 Ward 3 byelection. Voter turnout was 23.8 per cent.

Electors who are on the voters’ list will have received a voter information letter. It contains a personal information number (PIN) specific to the elector, with information on the voting process and casting a ballot for Barrie's 2022 municipal election.

To vote you must be a Canadian citizen, be 18 years of age or older as of Oct. 24, 2022, be a Barrie resident, a Barrie property owner or tenant or spouse of a Barrie property owner or tenant, and not prohibited from voting by law.

Barrie voters are electing the next mayor, eight of 10 councillors (two were acclaimed) and school board trustees.
