After an extremely successful Winter Motomax event at Severn Marina last winter, Starlight Children’s Foundation Canada is excited to return to the area and offer children with serious illnesses and their families some much needed fun this summer.
A brand-new Starlight Canada pontoon boat is docked at Severn Marina and ready to take families out on beautiful Little Lake/Gloucester Pool.
Throughout the summer, children and their families will be able to enjoy boat rides piloted by volunteer Pontoon Captains.
Starlight Canada will also be hosting an exciting large-scale Summer Motomax event on August 6th to 7th, where sick and disabled children and family members from the surrounding community will get to enjoy adaptive, motorized activities, like relaxing boat rides, exciting hovercrafts, or adapted four-wheeler adventures!
Volunteer Captains Needed
In order to serve as many children as possible this summer, Starlight Canada needs a number of volunteers to help out. They are currently looking for local boaters who can volunteer their time as Pontoon Captains.
“Beyond having a passion for helping sick children in your community, Pontoon Captains should have their Pleasure Craft Operator Card and be comfortable operating one of Starlight Canada’s pontoon boats docked out of Severn Marina bi-weekly or once a month based on their preference,” explains Brian Bringolf, Chief Executive Office of Starlight Canada.
Providing an Important Service to Families
Starlight Canada provides a number of much-needed services to kids living with serious illness and their families. They support children both in-hospital and at home to help foster feelings of happiness and hopefulness.
The Foundation also organizes exciting events like Summer Motomax as well as grants wishes to kids. This type of emotional support is important to kids and their families who spend a lot of their time and energy focused on medical treatments.
Without volunteers, events like the pontoon boat excursions and Summer Motomax would not be possible.
“Volunteering for Starlight Canada means making a difference while having fun,” says Brian. “As a Pontoon Captain, you will first-hand get to see the joy and excitement of seriously ill children who don’t often get to share experiences such as these. The time and energy that our volunteers give allows Starlight Canada to make children smile and help families cope.”
Volunteers from the community will also be needed for Winter Motomax that will be coming to the area again next year.
