Established in 1970 as Barrie's inaugural civic club, The May Court Club of Barrie (The May Court Club) has a rich history of community service and a legacy of making a meaningful impact. The May Court Club is a registered charity and a proud member of the Association of May Court Clubs of Canada, tracing its roots back to Lady Aberdeen, who founded the first club in Ottawa in 1898.

Over the years it has grown, and today, it is part of a network of clubs that includes Ottawa, Brockville, Chatham, Kitchener-Waterloo, London, Oakville, St. Catharines, and Windsor. The clubs’ common goal is to give back to the communities they call home.

The May Court Shop

One key initiative is the May Court Shop, located at 54B Maple Avenue. The shop is a unique treasure trove of fashion finds, offering a diverse selection of consignment clothing for ladies. From stylish tops and pants to elegant dresses and cozy coats, its collection caters to a wide range of tastes.

“What sets us apart is that our shop is entirely run by dedicated volunteers, ensuring that every purchase supports our charitable endeavors,” says Marianne Schall, The May Court Club’s publicity volunteer.

Homes For the Holidays: A Festive Tradition

On Nov. 5, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., The May Court Club will host its annual flagship fundraiser, Homes for the Holidays, which bring the joy of the holiday season to life.

The event features visits to four stunning holiday-decorated homes that will leave visitors inspired and in the holiday spirit. “While on the tour, make sure to stop by our delightful Tea Room at the Heights of Horseshoe for a snack and shop the Makers Market for unique gifts and crafts. Homes For the Holidays has become a cherished tradition for many in our community, serving as the perfect way to kickstart the festive season,” explains Schall.

Over the years, we have proudly raised and donated over $2.9 million back to the community, making a lasting impact on the lives of countless individuals and organizations,” says Schall.

Schall says that The May Court Club has recently made contributions including supporting the Nutrition Program in 27 public and Catholic schools with $20,000, offering scholarships, aiding individuals in need through caseworkers, and partnering with organizations such as the Down Syndrome Association of Simcoe County, Redwood Park Communities, Samaritan House, Seasons Centre for Grieving Children, Bridget's Bunnies, YouthReach, Youth Haven Barrie, the Barrie Food Bank, and many more.
