Woman suffers 'serious injuries' in fiery Oro-Medonte crash

OPP say Old Barrie Road will be closed for 'some time' for the investigation; two other occupants were taken to hospital with minor injuries

A woman involved in a fiery two-vehicle crash in Oro-Medonte this afternoon has been airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre after suffering serious injuries.

Orillia OPP Const. Brett Boniface said the collision occurred at the intersection of Line 8 and Old Barrie Road at around 5 p.m. this afternoon.

"One of the cars rolled and caught fire," Boniface told OrilliaMatters. He said a female occupant of one of the vehicles suffered "serious injuries" and was taken to Toronto by Air Ornge.

Two other occupants were sent to a local hospital with minor injuries, he said.

Boniface said Old Barrie Road has been closed between Line 7 and Line 9, noting township staff have erected barriers to prevent traffic while technical reconstructionists from the Central Region TIME team investigates.

He expects Old Barrie Road to be closed for "some time" as the investigation continues.

Oro-Medonte firefighters were also called to extinguish the vehicle fire that spread to a nearby field.
