Woman, 59, airlifted to hospital after downtown Barrie shooting

Police said officers remained on scene Friday night in the area of Dunlop and Mulcaster streets for the ongoing investigation

Barrie police say a 59-year-old woman was airlifted to a Toronto hospital following a shooting downtown Friday afternoon. 

Around 10:30 p.m., city police said officers remained on scene in the area of Dunlop and Mulcaster streets near the waterfront for the ongoing investigation.

There was no other information about the victim's condition. 

Police say further updates will be provided "as the investigation permits."

Officers responded to the scene, not far from Meridian Place, around 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 24.

An area behind the Dunlop Street East buildings, known as Lakeshore News, was cordoned off with police tape. 

Police at the scene earlier told BarrieToday that the shooting scene is located at the rear of the building at 133 Dunlop St. E.

Police could also be seen on the fire-escape stairway part way up the back of the building.
