On Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at 6:40 p.m. police were called by Loss Prevention from Walmart located at 450 Bayfield Street, in the City of Barrie, who noticed something suspicious.

A male and female were spotted selecting various items in large quantity from the grocery area of the store and putting them into bags in their grocery cart.

The keen eye of the two Lost Prevention Officers paid off when both parties exited the store making no attempt to pay for the items in their cart.

The pair took flight pushing the grocery cart across the parking lot but Loss Prevention shortly caught up, placing the parties under arrest.

The female stayed put while the male attempted to flee the scene. He was stopped by Police a short distance away as they pulled up on scene.

The stolen items amounted to over $590 and the pair was charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property.

The 38-year-old Midland female was released on an Appearance Notice with a court date of February 29, 2016.

The 31-year-old male, also a Midland resident, was wanted on an outstanding warrant from OPP and was handed over to them.

He is also expected in Barrie court in February to answer to the shoplifting charge.
