Weapons, drugs seized at Angus residence

An Essa Township man faces weapons, drug-trafficking charges as a result of the investigation

ESSA TWP. - Members of the Nottawasaga Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid charges against an Angus resident in relation to an ongoing drug investigation.

On Thursday, July 16, 2020, members of the Nottawasaga CSCU, assisted by OPP UCRT (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives) members, executed a search warrant at a residence on Curtis Street, Angus, Essa Township, resulting in an arrest and seizure of a firearm, ammunition, and drugs.

As a result of this investigation, Dylan Winterkorn, 31 years of age, of Essa Township, has been charged with:

  • Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court, contrary to s. CC 145(5)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC);
  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order, contrary to s.117.01(1) CC;
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, contrary to s.88 CC;
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 - in Canada, contrary to s. 354(1)(a) CC; and
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking-opioid (other than heroin), contrary to s. 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA).

As a result of the search warrant, police seized 10 grams of fentanyl, over 150 etizolam pills, a 9mm firearm with ammunition, and smokeless powder and fuses.

The accused was held pending a bail hearing.
