Two arrested in relation to distraction theft

Barrie Police Service has identified and arrested the female suspect wanted in relation to the theft of lottery tickets and cigarettes from Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2018. 

Leading up to her arrest, the female was also identified as a suspect in connection with two additional thefts of lottery tickets. On Friday, Mar. 2, 2018 the female attended the Hasty Market located at 480 Mapleton Avenue, in the City of Barrie, distracting the employee and stealing the scratch tickets before fleeing. 

Within two hours the female (allegedly) attended the Mac's Convenience at 221 Ferndale Drive South, in the City of Barrie, where she cashed in her winnings on the previously stolen tickets then distracted the employee and stole another tray of tickets before fleeing.

On Sunday, Mar. 4, 2018 at 1:15 a.m. the female was recognized by an employee working at Mac's Convenience at 280 Dunlop Street West, in the City of Barrie, as she attempted to cash in scratched lottery tickets. 

She was denied service and upon leaving the employee collected a licence plate to pass on to police. The vehicle was located a short distance away with the female in the passenger seat. 

The 32-year-old Toronto female was charged with:

  • Theft Under $5,000 x 2
  • Fraud Under $5,000
  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Fail to Comply with Probation x 2

The female was in the company of a male who was currently on a court ordered Undertaking with a condition to not associate with the female suspect. The male was arrested in relation to his breach. 

Officers also located a bag containing suspected crystal methamphetamine, a bag containing suspected powder fentanyl, drug paraphernalia and a replica air soft hand gun. All items were seized in relation to the arrest of the male.

The 34-year-old Barrie male was charged with:

  • Fail to Comply with Undertaking
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Fentanyl
