On the 8th of March 2016, a warrant was issued under the Education Act for the arrest of a habitually absent Barrie student.

The 16-year-old female was consistently absent from school without cause and then failed to attend her originally scheduled court date.

On the 11th of March 2016, the female was located, arrested and held overnight to appear in bail court Saturday morning.

Students and parents are reminded at this time that in Ontario it is mandatory for persons between the ages of 6 and 18 to attend school.

Exceptions to compulsory attendance are explained in section 21 of the Ontario Education Act.
