Police say a woman celebrating Canada Day was assaulted

On July 1 2017 a 24-year-old female and 26-year-old male were partaking in Canada Day celebrations and consuming alcohol at a downtown Barrie establishment.

Around 5 p.m., the male was cut off from service due to his behavior and intoxicated state and they left the establishment.

The woman was assaulted, her shirt torn in the process.

Officers on patrol in the area were flagged down by witnesses who assisted the female.

The male was arrested for assault and transported to the Barrie Police station and held for a bail hearing.
