A small plane that crashed on the road has closed 16th Avenue near Buttonville Airport in Markham after something went wrong during landing.

Shortly after noon on Jan. 16, a small plane with two people on board attempted to land at Buttonville Airport — which is near Highway 404 and 16th — ended up on 16th instead, according to York Regional Police media relations officer, Const. Laura Nicolle.

No injuries are being reported.

The exact cause of the crash is unknown, but Nicolle said the Ministry of Transportation will be called in to investigate further, while YRP's role is to manage the ongoing traffic disruption.

It is unclear how long the closure will be in place. Drivers are asked to avoid 16th between Woodbine Avenue and Highway 404.
