Mary Street is closed Tuesday after a fatal collision involving a pedestrian at a construction site in downtown Barrie.

A female pedestrian was struck and killed by a delivery truck at a construction site in downtown Barrie earlier today.

At 10:37 a.m. on Tuesday, city police were called to Mary Street in downtown Barrie where they found a deceased woman on the street with a large truck parked in front.

The collision, at the site of high rise building under construction on Mary Street, occurred while the truck was pulling away after the delivery of construction materials to the site, according to police.

“Mary Street has been closed for an indefinite period of time to allow for the investigation to be conducted safely,” Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday at the scene.

A walker was lying on its side near where the woman was killed.

The Ministry of Labour has been notified and its investigators are expected to arrive on scene shortly.

The adjacent Barrie Transit Terminal has been affected by the investigation. The north platform has been closed, with the south platform continuing to operate, getting buses in and out of the station.

BarrieToday will provide more information as it becomes available.
