A man was arrested at gunpoint early this morning following a disturbance at a Midland motel.

Police say two 911 calls came in to the OPP Communications Centre at approximately 12:45 a.m., Dec. 5, from staff at a King Street motel reporting suspicious people on the property, possibly breaking into vehicles, prompting a "quick response" from Southern Georgian Bay OPP officers.

Upon arrival, police say uniform officers were directed inside the motel to a possible ongoing assault and encountered a "lone, agitated individual" who had allegedly produced an edged weapon during interaction with the officers.

The suspect was arrested at gunpoint and transported to detachment for further investigation.

A 39-year-old Midland man has been charged with possession of weapon for dangerous purpose and causing a disturbance.

The accused was released from police custody on a recognizance to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Jan. 19, 2023.
