A man was pronounced dead after being pulled from Kempenfelt Bay in downtown Barrie early this morning.

Emergency crews responded to the call shortly after 2 a.m. after the man was reported to be in the icy water near the government docks.

“He was removed from the icy waters, life-saving efforts were commenced and he was transported to a local hospital,” Barrie police said in a statement on X (formerly Twitter).

Efforts to revive the man were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead.

Police say the investigation is continuing. No additional information has been released.

Anyone with video from the area of Lakeshore Drive and Bayfield Street prior to 2 a.m. on March 9 is asked to call police at 705-725-7025.
