A Barrie man wanted on outstanding warrants was arrested early this morning after police say he refused to leave the bathroom of a south-end business as it was closing.

Shortly after midnight on Thursday, March 9, city police responded to a report of an unwanted person at a Yonge Street business as it was preparing to close.

Upon arrival, police say they spoke with the 51-year-old Barrie man, who was known to officers, and determined he was wanted on an outstanding bench warrant for assault, mischief and failure to appear for fingerprinting and a court date.

The man was arrested and was allegedly found to be in possession of what is believed to be crystal methamphetamine.

The accused was transported to Barrie Police Headquarters on Fairview Road where he was charged with possession of a controlled substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA).

The man remains in custody due to the outstanding charges associated with the bench warrant.

He's scheduled to appear by video later today at the Barrie courthouse.
