Fourth man arrested in 2021 assault of Elnaz Hajtamiri

Richmond Hill resident assaulted in parking garage prior to her abduction from Wasaga Beach house in January 2022

A fourth suspect has been arrested in the Richmond Hill assault of Elnaz Hajtamiri, who remains missing after being abducted in January 2022.

The arrest of 25-year-old Mono resident Harshpreet Sekhon is linked to the attack that occurred Dec. 20, 2021 in a parking garage on King William Cresent, in the area of Yonge Street and Bantry Avenue, according to York Regional Police.

The suspects fled in a vehicle, while Hajtamiri, who was beaten with a frying pan, was taken to the hospital in non-life threatening condition.

Officers identified the suspect wanted in connection with the attack Feb 16. He is charged with aggravated assault and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, police said.

He is the fourth person to be arrested in connection with the assault.

On April 13, 2022, York police arrested Riyasat Singh and on Nov. 28 he plead guilty to aggravated assault. He was sentenced to one year in jail but has since since been deported, police said.

Police then charged Hajtamiri's ex-boyfriend, Mohamad Lilo, on July 12, 2022 in connection with the attack.

A third suspect, Harshdeep Binner, was arrested in September 2022. He remains in custody, police said.

Hajtamiri has been missing since Jan. 12, 2022. The 37-year-old was taken by three suspects dressed as police officers from a residence in Wasaga Beach. They fled in a white Lexus RX.

York Regional Police said it continues working closely with the Ontario Provincial Police on that investigation. There is a $100,000 reward for anyone with information leading to the location of Hajtamiri or the identity and arrest of those responsible for her disappearance.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
