Police news release update: 9:03 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 25

Barrie Police received multiple calls Saturday afternoon with regards to a female ejected from a vehicle onto the road on the Dunlop Street Bridge over Highway 400.

The female was immediately taken to hospital by ambulance and police shut down the bridge and connecting 400 off ramps to protect the scene of the investigation.

Thanks to numerous cooperative witnesses, members of Barrie Police's Investigative Services have been able to determine that the matter is not criminal in nature. 

The female, a 33 year old Barrie native, was transported to the SunnibrookHosptial ICU where her condition is listed as stable.

Barrie Police shut down the Dunlop Street Highway 400 overpass late Saturday afternoon after an injured woman was found on the shoulder.

A passing motorist called police just after 4:30 p.m. after seeing the adult female lying on the side of the road. 

County of Simcoe Paramedics rushed the woman to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre.

Police say she has serious injuries.

"The overpass will be closed for some time," said Acting Patrol Sgt. Doug Bosch. "We'll be holding the scene until we determine the circumstances." 

The OPP are assisting Barrie Police by blocking the northbound 400 westbound exit to Dunlop. 

Access to Highway 400 via Dunlop Street is also closed. 

Barrie Police are asking motorists to avoid the area.
