A concerned citizen contacted police after seeing a female drinking from (an alleged) liquor bottle while sitting in the drivers seat of a vehicle in the south end of Barrie.

On Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2017 at 12:45 p.m., the witness saw the female driver drinking from, what appeared to be, a liquor bottle before exiting her vehicle and going into the Mr. Sub on Yonge Street in the City of Barrie. The female was stumbling and appeared to be intoxicated, so the witness contacted the Barrie Police Service for assistance.

While on the phone with police, the female returned to the vehicle and began driving. The witness followed, keeping an eye from safe distance, and police were able to catch up with the suspect at her residence a short distance away.

The female immediately failed a road side screening device and subsequently was transported to the Barrie Police Service for further testing. After two breath tests that registered over twice the legal limit, the 50-year-old Barrie female was charged with driving while impaired, and care and control over 80mg. Her vehicle has been impounded for seven days and her licence has been suspended for 90 days.

The female will appear in a Barrie Court in November to answer to her charges.
