Child porn charges follow six-month investigation

On Thursday, May 11, 2017, members of the Barrie Police Service Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit arrested and charged a 38-year-old Barrie man following a six-month investigation relating to online exploitation of children.

The investigation resulted in the execution of a search warrant and the seizure and forensic examination of four (4) devices.

The investigation commenced in October of 2016 after police received an anonymous tip concerning an upload of child pornography via Skype and ChatStep. As a result a production order and search warrants were executed, and subsequently four (4) devices were seized.

Police charged the 38-year-old male with possession of child pornography. The accused appeared in bail court before an Ontario Court of Justice, and will l re-appear at a later date.

The Barrie Police Internet Child Exploitation Unit is a partner within Ontario’s Provincial Strategy to protect children from sexual abuse and exploitation on the internet.
