Barrie men charged in drug-trafficking, weapons probe up north

Two Barrie residents are among four people facing drug and weapon charges following a traffic stop earlier this month in Seguin Township.

On Nov. 7, West Parry Sound OPP say officers stopped two vehicles for stunt driving on Highway 400. While searching the vehicles, officers found two firearms and about 290 grams of suspected fentanyl with an estimated value of more than $65,000, according to a news release.

Nicholas Valois, 18, of Barrie, has been charged with possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking (opioid), possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession for the purpose of distributing, possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, possession of anything for use in, production of trafficking in Schedule 1 or Schedule 3, stunt driving, driving while under suspension, failure to comply with a probation order, and three counts of possession of a prohibited device or ammunition.

Shane Paul, 23, of Barrie, has been charged with possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking (opioid), possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession for the purpose of distributing, possession of anything for use in, production of trafficking in Schedule 1 or Schedule 3, three counts of possession of a prohibited device or ammunition, and four counts of failure to comply with a probation order.

Brandon Spragg, 37, of Tory Hill, has been charged with possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking (opioid), possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession for the purpose of distributing, possession of anything for use in, production of trafficking in Schedule 1 or Schedule 3, stunt driving, and three counts of possession of a prohibited device or ammunition.

Tyrell Sooklall, 21, of Clarington, has been charged with possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking (opioid), possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession for the purpose of distributing, possession of anything for use in, production of trafficking in Schedule 1 or Schedule 3, failure to comply with an undertaking, and three counts of possession of a prohibited device or ammunition.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and they are presumed innocent. 

All four accused were scheduled to appear Nov. 8 in bail court in Parry Sound.
