Barrie Police officers began in investigation into a aggravated assault case that occurred shortly after midnight on Friday, Apr. 28, 2017 at a local bar on Dunlop Street East, in the City of Barrie.

Police were called by paramedics and the victim's friends after a male was struck across the face with a broken beer bottle. It is believed the attack was either unprovoked or intended for another person after a pushing match between some patrons resulted in the the victim being blindsided. The victim was taken to Royal Victoria Regional Health Center where he was treated for the non-life threatening injury, although reconstructive measures had to be taken due to the severity of the cuts across his face.

Police continued the investigation identifying a male who they believed was related to the incident. Further video surveillance was collected and the suspect's identification was confirmed. A 22-year-old Bradford man was charged with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon and was given a future court date to answer to his charges.
