Passed away at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, in his 97th year. Larry was born on March 15, 1925 and grew up on a farm in New Lowell, Ontario as one of 4 siblings. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and was a Wireless Air Gunner during WWII. When he returned, he worked for the Canadian National Railway as a train dispatcher and then went on to run a restaurant called Stewarts Lunch and a B/A service station which then became Wood’s Gulf. In 1974, Larry and his wife Marg, became Realtors working in Barrie before finally retiring in 1999. Larry was involved in local men’s sports managing Sr Baseball teams and working with the Barrie Flyers Sr A hockey team. He also coached Boys hockey and baseball teams in Barrie and in Oro. Hunting and fishing (both in summer and on the ice) were avid pastimes for Larry and family and friends were his highest priority. Larry will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him and had the opportunity to call him a friend and even more by his close family members. Dad lived a full and rewarding life for his 96 plus years but it is still a very solemn day for us all. Larry was the beloved husband of the late Hanne Lore and Margaret Wood. Loving father of Dorothy Slocum and Barry and his wife Sherry of Barrie. Dear grandfather of Emily, Bradley, Edward and Andrew. Step-father of Sylvia Pearson and step-grandfather of Kylee and Tatum McLean. Predeceased by his siblings Dorothy Switzer, Mary Stephens and Harry Wood. Will also be missed by his sister-in-law Vera Wood. In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, no visitation or service will be held at this time. His wishes were to be cremated and his ashes placed in Barrie Union Cemetery alongside his first wife, Marg Wood. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Sick Kids Foundation or to the charity of your choice through the JENNETT FUNERAL & CREMATION CENTRE, 152 Bradford Street in Barrie.
