Townsend, Joseph (“Joe”) Henry

Joseph Henry Townsend

Joe was a man who left an indelible mark on the world through his caring nature, gentle spirit, and boundless love. On September 3, 2023, the world unexpectedly lost a remarkable individual whose presence will forever be missed. Born on August 13, 1964, in Newmarket, Ontario, he spent his life spreading joy and compassion wherever he went.

Joe's career as a DZ truck driver allowed him to traverse the roads with determination and dedication. He approached his work with unwavering commitment and shared countless stories of his adventures on the open road. His strong work ethic was matched only by his kind-heartedness towards others, making him a cherished colleague and friend.

Beyond his professional life, Joe's true calling was found in his role as a devoted father, and proud grandfather. He had an unceasing commitment to his family and found immense joy in spending quality time with those he held dear. His caring nature knew no bounds as he continuously placed the needs of others above his own.

As an outdoorsman, Joe savored opportunities to escape into nature's embrace. Camping trips were treasured moments when he could unwind alongside loved ones under starry skies and create everlasting memories around crackling campfires. His passion for golf mirrored his approach to life – patient, focused, and always seeking improvement. Woodworking was one of Joe's beloved hobbies—a craft that allowed him to channel his creativity.

Joe, beloved father, will be missed by his children Ashley Townsend (Patrick Coles), Kristal Townsend, Steven Townsend, and their mother Terry Costello-Townsend; and stepchildren Daniel and Sarah. Loved grandfather to Liam Townsend; and step-grandfather to Abby, and Aiden. Loving partner to Heather Cumming. Dear brother to Tom Townsend (Bonnie), Rick Townsend (Shirley), Randall, Townsend (Caroline), and Pat Townsend (Sheala). Joe is predeceased by his parents William (“Bill”) Townsend and Doris Fisher-Evans-Townsend and his brother Mike Townsend. Joe will be forever loved and remembered by extended family and friends.

Family, friends, and all whose lives Joe touched, will be received on Saturday, September 9, 2023, from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at LEGACY FUNERAL HOME, 55 Cedar Pointe Drive, Barrie, (parking and entrance on Highway 400 side of building).
