March 19, 1930 – April 8, 2024

Giuseppina ‘Josie’ Tolfo was born on March 19, 1930 to Luigi Papais and Palmira Bellina in Ramuscello, Italy. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, love and angels, on April 8, 2024, during the total eclipse of the sun, at the age of 94. A fitting exit for a vivacious, fun loving, beautiful soul. Beloved wife of the late Giuseppe ‘Joe’ Tolfo. Much loved mother of John and Karen. Cherished Nonna to Tania and Tyler, Laura and Sean and Maria and Chuck. Incredible Bis Nonna to Rowan, Ayla, Bronwyn, Max, Aly, Charlie and Clara. She taught us all how to have fun, how to live with a light heart full of forgiveness.

Dear sister of Peter (Rosanna), Iole (the late Giannino), Rodolfo (Mary), Dino (Anna) and predeceased by her brothers Oswaldo (the late Angie) and Gino (Rose). She will be missed by nieces, nephews, extended family members and many dear friends.

Josie was a talented seamstress and over the years made many dresses for local brides, bridesmaids, mothers of the brides and grooms. She also loved to sew for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. It was always a treat to receive her creations. All of them made with love.

Josie loved to garden and was happiest when she was outside. Her flower and vegetable gardens were beautiful, and she was always happy to share with family, neighbours and friends. We would like to thank the caring and kind staff at River Glen Nursing Home in Sutton for their exceptional care of Mom.

A Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, April 12, 2024 at 10 am at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 65 Amelia St., Barrie. Guests are invited to remain for luncheon that will follow the Mass inside the Church Hall. In keeping with Josie’s wishes, cremation will take place. Interment at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, 208 Sunnidale Rd., Barrie. Arrangements entrusted at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie.
