It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Ronald Reginald Albert John Panting in his 86th year on Wednesday, September 13th, 2023 at Hospice Simcoe.

Beloved and devoted husband of Shirley Panting (nee Dawson). Loving father of Debbie Masciantonio and her husband Tony, and of Chris Panting. Proud grandpa of 6. Cherished Popa of 8. Dear brother of George (predeceased), Al, Robert, Lynda, and half-sister Joan. Uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Ron was born in Toronto on December 7th, 1937 and moved to Phelpston before he was 10 years old.

He was an avid golfer, loved fishing, and playing baseball and hockey in his younger years. He enjoyed giving back to the community as evidenced by his many years of dressing up as a clown for the children’s Christmas parties at Mansfield Denman General and Jellco Packaging. His work history also included being an oil delivery / oil burner mechanic, a stone mason, and maintenance and safety operations manager, finishing his working years at Barrie Welding. That giving spirit was continued by volunteering with the Salvation Army Christmas Kettles for many years.

Ron loved keeping busy, whether it was by working on his lawn and gardens, taking daily walks, helping neighbours, reading, or his wood working projects. He loved his dogs and they loved him.

Ron and Shirley were fortunate to be able to travel throughout their married life and had visited all the provinces in Canada and every single state in the US except for Hawaii.

His love for all of his family was phenomenal. Although Ron was not one to openly declare his love, his actions proved it. His support for his wife Shirley during her health challenges was endless and tireless.

The family would like to thank Dr. Matthew Follwell of the RVH Cancer Centre, who went above and beyond to answer any and all questions Ron had -- even when Ron walked in without an appointment.

Appreciation is also given to Dr. Marek Szelag, Ron’s longtime family physician.

Very, very special thanks are extended to the staff and volunteers at Hospice Simcoe, who took such wonderful care of Ron during his final days. “A Home Away From Home”, where not only all of Ron’s needs were met, but also those of his family.

As per Ron’s wishes, there will not be a visitation or funeral.

If desired, donations in Ron’s memory may be made to Hospice Simcoe or the RVH Cancer Centre.
