George Thomas Frederick Lake
June 17, 1924 - December 11, 2023
Our hearts are broken as we announce the peaceful passing of George at 99 years of age on Monday December 11, 2023, Serenity Retirement Home in Barrie. George is now united with his beloved wife Janet predeceased August 2013 after 65 years of marriage. Cherished father of Sue (Bob)and proud grandfather of Bryan (Bradie), Matthew (Amy), great grandfather to Austin, Kelson, Mack and Connor and Kayla.
George and Janet were born in Coventry England, survived the horrific bombings of their city in WWII. They were married June 1948 and immigrated to Canada in 1953. Their roots were very important, and they visited on a regular basis for many years. George immediately found employment with Allstate Insurance Company where he touched the lives of countless people over his 36-year career retiring in 1987. After many years they purchased a family home in Scarborough where their neighbours came to be lifelong friends. In 2011and for the following 12 years Roberta Place in Barrie became home. They were extremely grateful for the wonderful staff and new friends.
My dad was the light of my life. Though he may not have realized, he was the backbone of our family. He led by example with his unselfishness, kindness and positive outlook on life and people, not forgetting his wit and sense of humour. He was a true gentleman by every sense of the word, and I am truly blessed to have had such a wonderful father and to be loved by this kind man. The world was a better place with him.
We are very grateful to the staff at Serenity Retirement Residence for the exceptional care and love they provided George during his final days. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will follow at a later date.
