With great sadness the family of Lawrence “Lawrie” E. Knapp announce his passing, September 6th, 1945 – May 3rd, 2023.

Lawrie was the son of Eldon and Doris Knapp of Anten Mills. He attended Barrie District North Collegiate, and The Provincial Institute of Trades in Toronto. Lawrie was the loving husband (54 years) of Sandra Knapp (nee Keating), father of Ryan (Christine) and proud grandfather of Cameron and Lauren. Lawrie will be forever missed by his beloved sister Janice Knapp, sisters-in-law Rhonda More (Nick), Lynda Cobb (Tom) and many nieces and nephews. The Knapp family wish to express much love and heartfelt gratitude to Mike and Sue for there kindness, though fullness, help and true friendship over the years. We also acknowledge Lawrie’s best friend, John.

Lawrie and John enjoyed numerous bird watching hikes, walks in the bush, ice fishing adventures and camping trips. Together they made long lasting memories. Thank you, John. Lawrie was known as Mr. Fix A Lot. He had an analytical mind, and could design, build, fix and invent anything. Lawrie joined 3M Canada, Photo Copier/Fax Division as a service technician. During his time at 3M Canada, the company evolved and changed names to Harris 3M, Lanier and lastly Ricoh.   He became a supervisor and lastly Dealer Support Rep. for the province of Ontario. His career included many hours of commuting and business trips to Saskatchewan, Alberta, B.C. Atlanta, and New York. Lawrie retired exactly 40 years years- June 20, 2006. Lawrie worked in the big city, but was a country boy at heart. His interests were many including, gardening, reading, bird watching, hiking and camping.

Retirement days were filled with countless glamping trips to take in the majestic beauty of Ontario Prov. Parks. Sunny March days were spent strolling along the beach, sitting by the pool, or reading on a balcony overlooking the Atlantic Ocean in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Knapp family extends thanks to Bayshore Home Care, Jennifer, Becky and the kind care PSW’s. Lawrie spent the last three weeks of his life in the tender care of the devoted nursing team, PSW’s and the dedicated volunteers at Hospice Simcoe.

The hospice team provided comfort through the most difficult time of our lives. While at hospice, we realized all is not what it appears? Hospice staff/volunteers are not mortals, instead Angels with wings hidden beneath their clothing working tirelessly for the patients and family members. The Knapp family is grateful to Dr.Hartsburg, Kim, Dr.Li, Dr. Gladwish. Thank you Dr.VanWalraven for your compassionate care. Your shinning halo was the light that guided us thru the last days of Lawrie’s life. Cremation has taken place.

As per Lawrie’s wishes there will be no service. Donations to the RVH Cancer Centre or Hospice Simcoe in Lawrie’s memory would be greatly appreciated. Lawrie you were my rock, my everything. Love you forever. Sandra, p.s. Lawrie’s wishes were no obituary but I couldn’t resist. Funeral Arrangements entrusted to Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
