It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of Roland “Rolly” Gervais on November 11, 2023. Rolly passed away peacefully at home, with his family by his side, after a long journey with Alzheimer’s.

Survived by his devoted wife and confidante, Sue, Rolly's legacy extends through his enduring marriage of 55 years and his cherished role as a father to daughters Carolyn (Ken Taylor) and Natasha (Scott Pugsley). He was a beloved Papa to Ethan and Grace, step-grandfather to Drew, Kristen, Sabrina, and Brayden, and godfather to Guy Gervais.

His absence will be deeply felt by his brothers Gerald Gervais (Lucille) and Jean Paul Gervais (Micheline), sister-in-law Sandra (Phil Eshleman), brother-in-law Steven Rose (Georgia), sister-in-law Rachel Gervais (Luise), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In the heavenly embrace, Rolly reunites with his father, Camille Gervais, mother, Laurencia (Brabant) Gervais, and siblings Rita Lefebvre (Roger), Simone Bertrand (Conrad), and Armand Gervais.

A proud military veteran with 35 years of service, he enjoyed postings to Valcartier, Calgary, London, Petawawa, Borden, and a memorable peacekeeping tour in Cyprus. His career not only brought professional fulfillment but also lifelong friendships that he cherished.

Rolly will be forever etched in our hearts for his unwavering love for family, positive outlook on life, infectious laughter, and a generous spirit evident in his commitment to giving and volunteering. His passions encompassed golf, card games, singing, and working with stained glass.

He found immense joy in the company of his grandchildren, sharing memorable moments at the cottage, whether it be fishing, playing cards, swimming, canoeing, or gathering around the fire to tell stories. Active in the Knights of Columbus, Hospice Simcoe, Out of the Cold, Senior Wish, Marriage Encounter, Barrie County Chordsmen, Vocal Maturity, and St. Mary's Choir, Rolly's impact on the community was profound and far-reaching.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of CarePartners, St. Elizabeth Health Care, and Bayshore HealthCare. A special acknowledgement goes to Cathy from V.O.N. and Dr. Ekeh for their gentle and kind support during this challenging time.

A visitation will be held from 3-5pm and 7-9pm on Wednesday, November 15, 2023,  at Adams Funeral Home (445 St. Vincent Street, Barrie). The Funeral Mass will take place at 10am on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at St. Mary's Parish (65 Amelia Street, Barrie) followed by reception.

Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada in memory of Rolly would be greatly appreciated by the family.
