1942 – 2022

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of  Peter  on July 23, 2022 in his 80th year after a long  battle with heart disease.

Beloved husband and best friend to Eleanor, he will be forever missed after their 56 years together. Loving  father to Jeffrey (Gillian) and Laura (James) Berry.

A doting  Papa to Claire and Sarah (Emch) and Charlotte, Benjamin and Madeline (Berry). He adored them all and loved being a part of their lives.

Predeceased by siblings Heinz, Elisabeth and Rita and brother-in-law Paul (Irene). Survived by his sister Irene, brother-in-law Carl Docherty (Rita), brother-in-law Jim (Barb) Nicholls and sister -in -laws Marlene & Debbie Nicholls and Mary Ellen  (Keith) Wilson. Also survived and loved by many nieces and nephews.

He arrived in Canada from Switzerland at the age of 12 with his family and settled in Sundridge, where they owned the town bakery. He returned home from Mc Master University to help run the business after his mother passed suddenly. This is when he met Eleanor and they began their long life together.

His early career was with Canadian Liquid Air and subsidiaries. He advanced to positions in Toronto, Montreal and Belleville. He went on to build his successful business Emch Medical Pipeline Testing, with Eleanor by his side supporting and helping him all the way. He retired at 60 to travel and work on his golf game. He kept busy and loved woodworking, camping, skiing, sailing, lawn bowling and playing cards and especially Poker with the guys. Some of his favourite memories were ski trips with the Cranes and Heli-skiing.

We will host a Celebration of Peter’s life on August 28th from 1pm to 4pm at the Heights Ski and Country Club, 1106 Horseshoe Valley Rd, RR#1, Barrie, ON.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honour to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, Southlake Regional Health Center Foundation or Sick Kids Foundation.
