Thomas William (Bill) Elson was born in Barrie on March 2nd, 1932, the first child of Thomas Malcolm Elson (died in 1978) and Lillian Beatrice (Grice) Elson (died in 1975). His only sibling, a brother, Jack, was born in 1935 and died of leukemia in 1943. Bill attended King Edward Public School (on Burton Avenue) and Barrie District Central Collegiate.
A sports enthusiast, in his youth and younger years he played hockey, baseball and football, and has been a follower of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Argonauts for more than six decades.
Following school, he worked for 3 years at Base Borden, courted and married Mary (Craft) Elson on October 10th, 1953 and worked briefly as an agent for the London Life Insurance Co. in Midland, Ontario. On June 28th, 1956, Bill was employed by (then) The Public Utilities Commission of the City of Barrie where he worked as office manager and secretary-treasurer until his retirement on June 28th, 1993.
Father of the late Tim (wife Sharon), Nancy (Young) and David of Peterborough and his children Levi and Rayna. Grandfather of Joanne and Matthew and great grandfather of 4.
Following his separation and divorce from Mary, Bill married Lynda in 1981. Lynda and her daughter Lori were a large part of Bill's life for many years until separation and divorce also claimed this marriage in 1990.
Bill attended Sunday school and church at Essa Road Presbyterian Church since he as seven years of age, but it was not until after his second divorce when he began searching for the true meaning of life and he committed his life to Jesus Christ in 1991.
A private graveside service will be held in the spring at the Little Brick Cemetery in Oro. If so desired, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation.
