Doug Eggins went to meet his Creator on Saturday, February 11, 2023, in his 97th year. Muriel predeceased Doug, her husband of 69 years, in 2017.  Thanks to their son Frank, both Muriel and Doug were able to spend their later years in their own home. They left behind three children, nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.  A pretty good legacy!  Doug, aka Grampy, will be deeply missed by:

Connie (Joe Tomona) and her three sons, Adam, Daniel, Jeremy and the greats Ethan, Hannah, Nicole, Avery.

Frank (Elizabeth McGuire, deceased) and their three daughters, Katie, Rachel, Krystina and the greats Claire, Gabe, Jack, Sigwan.

Douglas Vivian (Jessica Rhonemus) and their three sons, Chandler, Joshua, William.

Doug and Muriel came to Canada in 1952 from England.  Doug eventually found his vocation as a patent agent where his engineering background was invaluable.  He loved the work so much he continued in his own business after retiring from General Electric in 1986.

Doug was not a religious man, but he had a powerful belief in an afterlife and a Creator.  He told almost everyone he met that having asked his subconscious many years ago how long he would live, he was told 134 years.  Doug can be reassured that he will live in the memories and the hearts of his children and grandchildren until at least that age.

Doug was a happy, grateful, kind and generous man.  He shared his happy through song – everywhere he went!  At the dentist, the massage therapist, his doctor, RVH emergency, the denturist – to name just a few.   While living in Toronto he sang with the Mendelssohn Choir and in Barrie he sang with the Parkview Singers and the King Edward choir.  Doug loved an audience!  He was always happy to do an impromptu solo.

Doug gave generously to various charities.  He was a regular supporter of the Barrie Food Bank.  There won’t be any flowers or a funeral, but if you want to do something in Doug’s memory, a donation to your local food bank would receive a resounding thank you from him.

A celebration of life is planned for Saturday February 18 (2.00 pm) at 11 Charles Court, Barrie, ON L4N 6S8.
