( Feb. 3, 2013 – Aug. 23, 2023)

Unexpectedly on August 23, 2023 our angel got her wings.

Precious daughter of Stephanie Ayres and Calvin Doherty.  She brought light into their lives the day she was born and we know she will continue to light their way as time moves forward.

She looked up to her big sisters Madison Andrews and Kierra Grasley who loved her dearly.

Maiya always looked forward to her special visits with her Great Grandmother Muriel Ayres.   As well as visits with Great Grandpa Bob Froelich.

She was an adored granddaughter of Karen Clark, Debby Ayres (Joe Welzel), Steve Ayres (Darlene), and the late Gordon Doherty (Heather).

Maiya was loved by her many aunts and uncles, Kris Ayres (Aylissa), Samantha Ayres (Matt), Marsha Brisson (Joe), Maralyn Doherty (Crystal), Jeremy Fraser, Jason Fraser (Victoria) Kelly Quinn, Nadine Fraser (Margaret) Debbie Fraser and the late William Brown who will hold fond memories of time spent together.

She was the fun loving cousin of Makenzie, Conner, A.J., Mikey and Cheyenne and always looked forward to spending time with them.  Maiya will be missed by many more of her cousins and friends.

She was the long distance special cousin and friend to Tucker McClenaghan who will miss the phone calls and Facetime chats they shared through the last few years.

Maiya will be forever missed by her best friend and loyal dog Leo.

She was a young girl with an old soul. Anyone who met Maiya will tell you she always left a little piece of her with them.  Her kindness and generous nature followed you wherever you went.  Her charisma and her funny personality always left you wanting more of any conversation and her quick wit and humour always left you laughing.  She could bring a smile to anyone’s face in their darkest hour.

Maiya had a fierce spirit. She loved country music, playing sports, going camping, reading, and watching the races and was always up for an new adventure.

Visitations will take place at the Adam’s Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Barrie, Ontario on Thursday August 31, 2023 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm as well as on Friday, September 1, 2023 at 11:30 am followed by the service on Friday, September 2023 at 1:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to an animal shelter of their choice or an organization that assists children with disabilities as these were causes that were close to Maiya’s heart.

A special thank you to the Johnson Township Fire Department, Great Lakes Power employees, Thessalon OPP and St. Joseph Island Hospital for their immediate and compassionate response.  Thank you to all the friends and neighbours who have shown their support and kindness with phone calls, visits, text messages, food trays and the display of pink ribbons.

We ask that you pay it forward in Maiya’s honour by always being kind and help those less fortunate.
