October 18, 1960 - July 23, 2023
It is with deep sadness and much love that the family of Giovanni (John) Cotugno announce his passing on July 23, 2023 at the age of 62, following a brief battle with cancer in Barrie, Ontario.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend of 45 years, Brenda; daughters Krystal (Brian), Brittany (Jamie), and Ashley (Joe); his dog and companion Mia; grandchildren: Everly, Liam, Grayson, Olivia and Ellie. His brother Bob and sister in law Grace; sister in law & brother in law Sue and Scott and nieces and nephews Anthony, Stephanie, Lucas and Holly.
John was predeceased by his parents Rocco & Rosaria Cotugno.
John was born in Montescaglioso, Italy and came over to Canada with his parents and brother at the age of 9. He was very proud of his hometown and always dreamed of taking his family back there to show them where he grew up.
John loved his sports. He was a die hard Toronto Maple Leafs fan! He also was a very active and well loved member of the girl’s soccer and hockey community. He coached for many years and enjoyed every minute of it.
John believed family was everything. He loved his wife, daughters and grandchildren more than anything in this world. They will miss him dearly but will carry him with them in their hearts every day.
At John’s request, cremation has taken place. Friends and family can celebrate John’s life by joining his family for a mass in his honour being held on August 3, 2023 at 2 PM at St. Mary’s Church 65 Amelia Street Barrie, Ontario L4M 1M7. Reception to follow.
In Lieu of flowers, the family asks to kindly consider donating to the Simcoe Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie.
