Copeland, Janet Marr, nee Bonham, 82, passed away in Barrie after a year of declining health, on December 29, 2020. Born January 27, 1938 in Calgary, she grew up in Montreal, an only child to Robert L. Bonham and Jean Gray Bonham.  After high school, Janet lived in London, England before accepting a position with the film crew for “Lawrence of Arabia” and moved for a time to Jordan. Upon returning to Canada she met her future husband John Copeland (1938-2009) at a New Year’s Eve party in the Copeland Forest.  Together they raised their three children Jennifer Copeland, Martha Oughtred, (William Oughtred) and Cameron Copeland (Elspeth Copeland) in Elmvale, where Janet was an active member of the Wycliffe Anglican Church Altar Guild and a busy hockey mom.  Summers were spent on Lake of Bays, where Janet enjoyed playing tennis and bridge and spending time with friends. Janet relocated to Barrie in 1987 where she lived for the past 30 plus years.  She enjoyed a career working in provincial politics both in constituency offices and at Queen’s Park.  Many will remember her years of service with the Maycourt Club of Barrie, as both a member and past president. She was also a dedicated supporter of the David Busby Center, through her outreach work with St. George Anglican Church. Janet was the proud and beloved grandmother of Kristie and Erin Oughtred, and Read and Paisley Copeland. She will be missed particularly by her long time friend, Rayner McCullough. There are no public funeral services to be announced at this time, but we are planning a spring internment. Donations can be made to the RVH Children and Youth Mental Health Services or to Hospice Simcoe.

Cremation entrusted to Marshall W. Driver Cremation & Burial Service, 19 Ross St., Barrie.
