It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Betty Louise Bedford (Spring), on November 8, 2022, in Pincher Creek, Alberta.

Betty was born on March 8, 1930, in Barrie, Ontario. Her early life with her family was on the family farm in Innisfil, Ontario. Excelling in mathematics, after high school, Betty went to Toronto to become a Comptometer Operator. In the mid-forties, this calculator machine significantly made changes to bookkeeping and accounting operations. Over Betty’s professional life, she took Bookkeeping and Accounting courses through Adult Education in Toronto and in the latter part of her career worked as a Bookkeeper in a Barrie, Ontario, accounting company. Betty prided herself in her mathematic capabilities and wisdom with financial investments, and when asked, loved to help family members make financial decisions.

Travel was a great interest of Betty’s and as a young woman she travelled to the United States to get to know her father, Isaac Spring’s family. With her late husband, Leon Chouinard, she travelled to England to continue kindling the relationship with her mother, Henrietta Harmer’s family.

On July 4, 1987, Betty married Douglas Bedford, the love of her life. While living in Oro, Ontario and newly retired, Betty continued her bookkeeping interest and did volunteer bookkeeping for her church, different card groups, elderly people as well as Doug’s Fishing & Tackle business and her own Bed and Breakfast.

Betty Bedford was an active church woman, participating in both the United Church Women in Penetanguishene, Ontario from 1954-1956, Anglican Church Women in Toronto, Ontario from 1959-1961 and the Anglican Church Women in Shanty Bay, Ontario from 1987-1997. Betty was a regular member of St Paul’s Anglican Church in Innisfil, Ontario.

On September 15, 2019, at the age of 89, Betty moved to Pincher Creek, Alberta. Wanting to be close to her sweet great granddaughters, grand-daughter, who often supported her in her later years, and her daughter Lois, she took on the challenge of living full time in a new province.

Betty had several hobbies. Embroidery, playing piano, reading and cards were her mainstays and many of her family members have received lovely hand-embroidered pieces. Betty’s passion to travel took her on many adventures in Canada, United States, United Kingdom and Europe. At the heart of every conversation though, Betty asked about her girls, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, Doug’s family, and her sisters, nieces and nephews. Family news was always a central theme of every conversation and visit.

Left to mourn Betty are her daughters Juel Chouinard (John Weideman), Lois Chouinard, stepdaughter Cheryl Fotherby, stepdaughter Cindi Beaulieu (Daniel Beaulieu), stepson Mike Bedford (Lori Bedford) and her younger sister Edna Mae Longson (Spring).

Grandchildren Hannah Juel Weideman, Bram William Weideman (Sylvia Allen), Toma John Weideman (Heather Wright Weideman), Crystal Lee Ross, Amy Passafiume (Kevin), Elliott Fotherby (Ashlee), Alden Fotherby (Amanda), Emerson Fotherby (Kaity), Matthew Bedford (Louise), William Bedford, Jordan Beaulieu, and the late Julia Harris.

Great-Grandchildren Isla Autumn Allen Weideman, Logan William Allen Weideman, Micha John Weideman, Sebastian Heinrich Weideman, Isabella Lee Ross, Elianna Grace Ross, Torin Fotherby, Regan Reilly, Zoey Nikolaus, Eleanor Fotherby and Carter Harris.

Betty will be forever remembered and missed by her nieces, nephews and friends
