U Sports Roundup: Laval defence comes up big in shutout win over McGill

QUEBEC — Hugo Richard threw a pair of touchdowns and the Laval defence forced six safeties as the No. 3 Rouge et Or shut out the McGill Redmen 34-0 on Sunday in U Sports football action.

Richard finished the game 32 of 40 for 376 yards for Laval (4-1), while also carrying the ball six times for 31 yards.

The Rouge et Or quarterback connected with Etienne Moisan for a 30-yard TD in the first quarter before finding Alex Savard for a 10-yard score in the second.

Benoit Gagnon-Brousseau led all Laval receivers with six catches for 93 yards. David Cote converted on 2-of-4 field-goal attempts.

Mathieu Betts led the Rouge et Or defence with six tackles and 3.5 sacks.

Frederic Paquette-Perrault completed 9-of-18 passes for 123 yards and was intercepted once for McGill (1-4). Dimitrios Sinodinos came on in relief and was 6 of 9 for 53 yards.
