Keegan Marsden’s two-run home run with two out in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Kitchener Panthers to a 10-8 win over the Barrie Baycats Sunday in Intercounty Baseball League action at Jack Couch Park.

Marsden’s walk-off homer capped a five-run ninth inning that countered a four-run eighth by the Baycats. Josh Cote’s three-run home run was the catalyst for the Baycats' big eighth inning.

Raul Gonzalez and Yunior Ibarra also hit home runs for the Panthers, while Marcel Lacasse added one for the Baycats.

Brady Schnarr earned the win on the mound for the Panthers. Starter Jose Vasquez struck out eight despite giving up six runs on eight hits in seven innings of work.

Chris Cox was tagged with the loss. Starter Emilis Guerrero gave up four runs on eight hits, while striking out three.

The Panthers (6-2) are on the road Tuesday against the Guelph Royals at 7:30 p.m. The Baycats (4-4) host the Welland Jackfish on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Big sixth inning lifts Maple Leafs over Cardinals

A four-run sixth inning lifted the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 8-5 win over the Hamilton Cardinals Sunday during Intercounty Baseball League action at Dominico Field at Christie Pits.

Three singles from James Dutton, Jose Vinicio and Johnathan Solazzo, as well as a sacrifice fly scored four runs to give the Maple Leafs a lead they wouldn’t give up.

Dan Marra led the offence for the Maple Leafs with two doubles, a single and three runs scored.

Bryan Rivera, Clayton Keyes, and Luis Bernardo each had two hits for the Cardinals, who scored two in the third inning, and one in the seventh, eighth and ninth.

Maple Leafs starter Sam Greene earned the win. In five innings of work Greene had four strikeouts and gave up two runs on five hits. Jayson Wilbur was credited with the loss.

The Maple Leafs (7-3) and Cardinals (5-4) return to action Friday, in the back half of teh home-and-home set in Hamilton at 7:35 p.m.

Jackfish reel in Red Sox

James Smibert had five RBI to lead the Welland Jack to a 15-4 win over the Brantford Red Sox Sunday in Intercounty Baseball League action at Arnold Anderson Stadium.

Smibert’s single in the first inning scored one run, before he hit a double in the second to score Hogan Brown for the second time in the game. Smibert finished off his early game output with another single, this time driving in three runs to lead the Jackfish during a seven-run third inning.

Brown, Brandon Nicholson, Steven Moretto, Ethan Hunt, and Josh Williams all hit doubles in a game the Jackfish pounded out 17 hits.

Jeremie Veilleux led the Red Sox with three hits, while Matthew Fabian and Christian Kuzemka had two each.

Adam Jafine got the win on the mound, giving up three runs on eight hits, while striking out five in six innings of work. Jeremias Sucre was tagged with the loss.

The Jackfish (6-2) are on the road against the Barrie Baycats Thursday at 7:3o p.m. The Red Sox (1-8) host the Guelph Royals Friday at 8 p.m.
