A night out in Barrie took an unexpected turn for two unfortunate bar patrons Saturday night.

A 24-year-old Stoufville woman, a 23-year-old man from Maple, and a group of friends had come to Barrie to visit the downtown entertainment district.

As "bar close" loomed, the 24-year-old female was standing in close proximity to a woman who had been dancing on the bar.

The unknown woman had taken some offence to this (or has watched too many movies) and [allegedly] picked-up a barstool and struck the Stoufville woman.

Bar staff tended to the victim and ejected the problematic female.

The 23-year-old male from Maple attempted to follow the assaultive female down Dunlop Street so he could provide her whereabouts to police.

The female became enraged and [allegedly] punched the male in the eye for following her and fled the area.

Both the male and female received minor injuries.

The investigation into the suspect's identity, and the cause for the attack, continues.
